Most of our website visitors arrive and leave without any form of contact, this is absolutely normal and we’re happy with the amount of conversions we’re getting (it could be more, of course).

And we might not be a good fit for your needs, or – not as common, but it happens – you might not be a good fit for us!

Either way, before sending you on your way back onto the world wide web, we want to give you some helpful pointers on what to look for when hiring a remote web team.

Deciding Factors: Choosing a Web Developer

A well-designed and responsive website attract new customers, boost brand awareness, and ultimately drive conversions. We know that, you know that too.

But, finding the best web team (or freelancer, or agency, or company) to correctly create an impactful, custom, responsive, and unique website without breaking the bank can be a task and a half.

Several key factors should influence a decision-maker’s choice in a web development and/or design provider. We created a list of 5 of the most important factors to consider when choosing a web team. Which are the most important is dependent on your business needs and ability:

1. Portfolio & Experience:

  • Check the portfolio of past projects and website case studies to gauge design style, variety, and digital expertise. Make sure their websites are mobile responsive!
  • Relevant experience in the visitor’s industry is a plus, but shouldn’t be a major deciding factor. While similar projects demonstrates their understanding of the specific needs and challenges within that sector or industry, it doesn’t mean that they still can’t deliver a professional product.

2. Communication & Collaboration:

  • A web team in or around your timezone is always a plus. There are great designers and developers on Fiver and Upwork if delays and language barriers are not an issue.
  • Clear, common sense, and consistent communication is essential for a successful website project. Small & fluff talk is alright, but get someone who can cut to the chase when need be.
  • The web team should be responsive, readily available for questions, and open to feedback. Collaboration is essential.

3. Cost & Value:

  • Budget plays a significant role in the decision-making process, but it isn’t everything – and some web teams (like us) offer payment plans.
  • Usually retainers and ongoing WordPress maintenance services will come along with a monthly or annual discount, be sure to ask if a long-term commitment is beneficial to both parties.

4. Technology & Skills:

  • Ensure that the designers and developers possess the necessary technical skills and tools to bring the vision to life. And maybe ask what their tech stack is, even if it goes above your head.
  • Ensure they are ahead of current web development trends and best practices by checking out their recent blog posts or live streams.

5. Reliability & Timeliness:

  • Discuss deadlines and delivery expectations up-front and find out what their normal turnaround time is.
  • Seek an agency or freelancer with a proven track record of delivering projects on schedule and within budget.
