Welcome to this week’s edition of Latte Learning! With the back-to-school season in full swing, it’s a great time to reflect on how shifts in routine can impact our projects and personal lives. Just like preparing for a new school year, adapting to changes and planning ahead can make projects run more smoothly.
Project Tip: Define clear goals and create a list of desired functionalities for your website project.
Project Audit Tip: Before starting a project perform a baseline audit to evaluate the current state of your website.
Tools for Conducting a Baseline Audit: Use Google Analytics and Search Console to assess your top-performing pages. Here at 3tone Digital we always perform baseline audits before any work is done.
Shifts Happen
This week is full of excitement as our kids head back to school, yay! Just like preparing for a new school year, it’s important to recognize when old strategies no longer work and be ready to shift.
Whether you’re organizing your family’s new routines or planning a website project, understanding and adapting to these shifts with care and attention can lead to successful outcomes.
I spent a day teaching my kids how to prepare for a week of breakfasts and lunches. Here’s a glimpse into prepping: I may be old-fashioned, but I believe every morning should begin with a nutritious breakfast. Equally important is ensuring lunch is wholesome and free from processed options. While it requires some effort upfront, this preparation is important. Similarly, preparing a website involves thoughtful planning to ensure every detail contributes to a successful outcome.
Lunch Prep: Pasta salad, fruit salad, and a side of cucumbers from the garden
Breakfast Pizza (before putting it in the oven)
As web developers, we always approach a project with the understanding that plans can be interrupted by unexpected occurrences, necessitating shifts along the way. This insight comes from our experiences with past projects, where we’ve learned that even the best-laid plans may not unfold exactly as expected.
Tip: When faced with unexpected changes, prioritize open communication with your dev team. Quickly reassess the situation, document the changes to make sure everyone is on the same page. Flexibility and clear communication can help navigate these shifts smoothly and keep the project on track.
Preparing for Your Dev Team:
Here are some key preparations to make before starting a project with your developer. These are the items we request from our clients to help ensure the project is well-organized.
- Gather Requirements: Collect all necessary information and materials for your website project. This includes content, images, branding guidelines, and functionality requirements.
- Project Scope: Outline the scope of your project like you would meal prep. Decide on the pages, features, and design elements needed. This helps set clear expectations and makes sure you don’t miss any key components.
- Prep Ahead: Before you start, prepare all elements in advance. Write and edit content, gather high-quality images, and decide on design preferences. The more you have ready beforehand, the smoother the project will go.
- Set a Timeline: Set a realistic timeline for your website project. Include milestones and deadlines to keep everything on track.
- Feedback and Revisions: Review your website drafts and provide feedback to make sure everything aligns with your vision. Regular check-ins can prevent major revisions later.
Here’s to a week of successful meal preps and well-prepared projects!
