It’s hard to believe it’s already November! Many of our clients are shifting their focus to holiday marketing, which means making some branding updates to their websites.

Today, I’m excited to share a simple yet powerful trick that allows you to apply multiple color palettes to your WordPress site. For example, when it comes to the holidays, incorporating reds and greens can really help create that festive, seasonal feel.

Website design, like music, relies on harmony, tone and color to create a smooth and engaging experience. The right combination of elements—layout, imagery, and especially color—sets the mood and guides the user’s journey. This leads us to this week’s tip:

Customize Your Site’s Colors for Specific Sections

The latest WordPress 6.6 update introduces a feature for anyone looking to customize their website’s design quickly and efficiently. Now, you can define style variations for specific sections of your site—like headers, footers, and content blocks—without affecting the entire theme. This means you can add personalized colors to make your website look festive, fresh, and aligned with your brand’s tone—just in time for the holidays!

Why This is Great for Non-Coders:

Previously, customizing different sections of your site meant applying global changes across your entire theme. But with this new feature, you can now modify the style of individual sections, making it easier than ever to bring your branding to life. Whether it’s adding festive colors, adjusting typography, or creating a distinct look for each part of your site, the process is much simpler.

How Does This Work?

Here’s how it works: In WordPress 6.7, you can define style variations (such as custom colors, fonts, and spacings) for different blocks of your website. These blocks could include areas like:

  • Headers
  • Footers
  • Content sections
  • And more!

Once these style variations are set up, you’ll be able to make updates quickly and easily, giving you the flexibility to adjust your site’s look for different seasons or branding updates.

What Do You Need to Do?

This process involves editing your theme’s theme.json file, where you can declare your desired style variations. Don’t worry if you’re not familiar with the technical details—that’s where we come in!

Some Other Tips for Holiday Marketing

? Create Festive, Seasonal Designs

Use seasonal colors, festive banners, and holiday-themed images or graphics to create a warm, inviting atmosphere. Just like how a holiday song sets the tone, a holiday-inspired design can create an emotional connection and encourage an action.

Highlight Special Offers and Promotions

Make your holiday sales and promotions front and center. Use prominent calls to action (CTAs) like “Shop Now,” “Holiday Deals,” or “Limited Time Offer” to guide visitors directly to your special offers.

Tip for eCommerce Websites

Make sure your site loads quickly and that payment processing is quick, easy and smooth. A smooth checkout experience reduces friction and prevents potential customers from abandoning their purchase due to frustration or delays.
